tranny problems... 4l60e?

ok... so I dont know what tranny I have so is the 4l60e the one behind the 3.8l?
I dont know what auto trans I have but my 1996 camaro with the 3.8 is finally giving way on the tranny..... 169,500 miles and now slipping in passing gear and in 3rd..... oh well....

are they hard to rebuild? my father is a mechanic and when I mentioned rebuilding the tranny he said there are so many electronics that he wasnt sure if he could do it...

are there any online tranny rebuild instructions?

Yes you have a 4l60e, but there are a few differences between the V6 and V8 trannies...

There really are not too many rebuild instructions out there for this tranny and if there were they might not overcome a lot of the shortcommings of these things from the factory... Since you live close to Frank at CPT it should be easy to just take your tranny to him to rebuild for you, that would save you shipping costs. At least it is something to think about...

Don't attempt to build it yourself...have it done right. Only guy I trust with a 4L60E is Frank Cahall (CPT).

well here is the deal.... I really dont want to pay much to have it fixed as the car is only blue booked for 1k-2k.. thus I dont care about the car and going to replace it soon.. I just bought a 2005 TrailBlazer EXT for the wife so I cant buy anything new yet..... maybe looking at the new camaro if it ever comes out... this car has been good to me so far as only needing a battery, alt and waterpump.... that is it other than this tid bit....
