Tranny and Console Bounces

I have a 94 Z28 M6 and when I hit a bump or get on it the console moves up and down. I already have the poly trans mount (2 years old) torque arm poly bushing. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance

I am still having this issue. What connects the shifter console to the body of the car? It seem that when i hit a bump in the rear the shifter console will bounce. Thanks

Re: Tranny and Console Bounces

There is nothing physically attaching the shifter to the console . The only 2 things the shifter goes through are the lower boot (that is screwed to the floor) and the upper, leather boot, attached to the console. There should be enough free/loose material in the leather boot that it won't pull the console around when it moves (hence, how it allows you to shift through all 6 gears freely?). The lower boot is down far enough, I don't "think" it should be causing the console to bounce around, but who knows?! Are you SURE you've got a poly mount, and everything is bolted solid under there?? Are you sure the console is bolted down properly? Perhaps it just "bounces" when you hit bumps and it's nothing to do with the shifter at all??

I don't know what else to tell ya, dude?

Capn Pete,
I just don’t think the console should bounce like that. If I put my finger at the shifter console and the dash piece that covers the radio when I hit a bump I can stick my finger between them. It is like the hump under the console is loose or something. I don’t know how else to explain it.

Re: Tranny and Console Bounces

After I had the 383 installed, and added the 315 rear tires, I was getting some pretty wicked wheel hop. It would shake the hell out of the console, and the shifter would jump up and down. I've since installed tubular lower control arms and relocation brackets (to get rid of the wheel hop), and a crossbrace mounted torque arm (to move the mount off of the tranny). I don't have this issue any more.

Can you define wheel hop?
Correct me if i am wrong but I thought wheel hop was when you cant get traction and the tire hops.
Mine does this just from hitting a bump. Thanks

Yeah, that's right. You mentioned that you see this problem when going over bumps or when you get on it. I just thought about my wheelhop issue when I read that.

Re: Tranny and Console Bounces

It almost feels like the transmission is pushed up against the chassis and it has no room to give when you go over a bump.
