Unhappy Tranmission clunks & noises

Hey guys,

My 95 3.4 V6 A4 trans has been acting up. It drives fine, but while in reverse it will sometimes make a knocking noise, like it is hitting the car. Not like a loud bang, but audible. This happens only in reverse.

Driving the car normally, over a large bump I will hear some clunking. It doesn't really affect driveability, but I want to get this fixed.

I went under the car and checked the mount; it seemed slightly cracked on top but the cracks aren't that big. I also checked my U-joints out back to see if they are loose...they seem pretty tight to me (I just grabbed and pulled on the driveshaft to see if there is any play). However, when I had the rear wheels on jackstands and the fronts chocked, I started the car and put it in drive and then reverse to see if I could spot any looseness or banging...didn't see or hear anything. BUT when I put the car back in park with the wheels up, I hear a nasty grind noise that came from the transmission!! With the car back on all wheels, the noise did not come back when I put the car in park....weird .

If it is the trans mount, I'm not sure whether to go with a stock GM mount, or go 1LE or poly. I only AutoX occasionally. How much does the GM stock mount cost?

thanks guys

When it was on stands and you put it in park, did you hit the brakes and make sure the wheels stoped spinning before you put it in park? If not, thats the same thing as throwing it in park before coming to a complete stop. Sounds like thats what happened.

You know, I hit the brake but I don't remember checking for the wheels to be stopped , so I guess they were still moving.....thats one problem down, thanks man!
