Torque conveter lock up Q?

I know there is a kit with a switch out there that you wire into the 700r4 trans some how and what it does is keep the torque converter un-locked in 1st - 3rd gears. and wil will function normal in 4th O/D.

Is there any way to rig this up for next to nothing in $$$? Has anybody here done this? Or can you tell me who makes the kit and where to get it? I belive it was B&M who made it but not sure

well, there is a way to do,but its not really next to nothing. u use GM parts (i think i still have the part #'s somewhere). it uses a vacuum switch and some connectors. u dont have to take the pan off to do it either.

On your ALDS or whatever connector, the connector where you check the codes...you wire a switch between the very left and very right top wires....when you flip the switch the tq converter locks up. I think its wires #1 and #12. thirdgen.org has the tech article about this.

Ok, thanks guys. But I don't want it to lock up when drivin in town. I know it can be done because I seen the kit for it a few years ago but can't find it now. Like I said I think it was B&M that had it.

Here's how I did mine:
http://www.highperformancecars.com/crosley/lockup1.htm

My tranny already had a normally open 4th gear pressure switch so I didn't have to buy anything. Because this will lock the converter as soon as you go into 4th, I drive around town in 3rd. Once I'm above 50 or on the freeway I put it in 4th. This is to avoid bogging at low speeds.

The way I mentioned involves a toggle switch that you would just flip once you get on the highway and actually want tq converter lockup.

Yeah, I understand that. I knew that could be done. Thanks though.

I'm trying to prevent the TC from locking when I'm running around town. It gets annoying and bogger it down and tends to jerk some when it locks.

Thanks for the links guys
