torque converters?

im having my transmission rebuilt...AGAIN...and i have to have a new torque converter. i would like to know what size stall to get and what brand. im leaning towards a 2500 because the guy thats doing my trans said the 3000 would be too much and could burn it up again. and of course im having a trans go shift kit put in it. thanks!

Re: torque converters?

A 3000 shouldn't burn it up, my friend had a 3800 in his 4l60e, do you have a tranny cooler?

Re: torque converters?

If the guy doing your trans said the 3000 would burn up your trans I would take it elsewhere...I run a 3600 Vig and am on my 3rd year of street driving and countless track passes and everything is fine and I still haven't put a trans cooler on it yet...(but I am)...My trans has only been built twice..one by Rossler in 1995 when it was new just to make it last, and again by a good local shop in 2003...And I'm VERY hard on everything...Look to another shop to do your build...Check the sponsors...I hear good things about CPT (Frank) even though I haven't used him...

Re: torque converters?

I'm running a 3500, If the tranny isn't built to handle it, it won't last. I'm on my 6th tranny, so this time i went all out, even have the cryo freezed internals. Just from your sig i would say go with a 2800 and for the brand, remember you get what you pay for. When my setup was like yours i ran a 2400, 2800, and a 3800 and the 2800 i thought was the best for street and strip. JMO

Re: torque converters?

i do have a trans cooler on it. and i dont know why it burned up so quickly after the last rebuild. the guy i have doing it is the automatic transmission instructor at the technical college i am attending. my old converter wasnt a lock up so that may have done it. i WILL be getting a lock up this time.
