torque converter or not?

OK, I just had my trans rebuilt about two months ago and with the stage II they installed a shift kit along with other upgraded goodies. Now with my old trany I had no problems with shifting or bogging. Now when in heavy traffic, if im doing between 20-30 and slowly accelerate it seems to bog down and seems confused about what gear to go to. I was told this is probably just the converter locking and unlocking and that a bigger gear ratio would help as I have stock 2.73's. Is this true or is there something wrong with either the computer or physically?

If it is indeed locking and unlocking, and gears would help, then what size and what do I need to completely swap gears? Sorry, I know just enough to get me into trouble!

Re: torque converter or not?

The tc shouldn't be locking at 20-30mph.

Re: torque converter or not?

I dont really understand the working of a tc, but I know its when I start to accelerate and its arround the time it feels like it should be shifting. About 2100 rpms or so is where I have taken note of it. Its really bugging me and I doubt its doing any good for my trans...

Re: torque converter or not?

yea that converter shouldnt be locking that low, it could if you hang at constant rpm for a while, but there is a trick to figure it out

you can run some wires and force it to lockup or stay unlocked, if you force it to stay unlocked and it still does it, as it likely will, we'll have more info.

i cant find the site at the moment, but if you search awhile, the site that has the setup is for like mid 80s monte carlos, i also found this one http://www.turbodieselregister.com/f...terySwitch.htm

otherwise B&M makes a kit too
