torque converter installation

Having problems getting 3 drops. We got 2, but have been working on the 3rd for about 3 or 4 hours. Tranny is stood up on end. Tried lifting, droping, twisting... everything... it won't drop in. Need help ASAP, as we are waiting by the computer for help.

Re: torque converter installation

It may be too late.......but what I did was just kept rotating the coverter until it dropped.
If all else fails get it on as far as you can and then get it up on the block as long as you have clearance to spin the converter after you get the bellhousing bolts tight you should be good to go. If its tight against the flexplate and you cant spin it then it needs to go in further. Be careful if you try this, watch closely and check often as you tighten down the bellhousing bolts.
It can be tricky, you should also have a measurement that came with the instructions as to how much gap you should have between the mating surface of the bellhousing and the mating surface of the converter.
I can,t remember it off the top of my head, my trannys been in 2 years and I am getting old.

yeah, we spun it for a while, but it still didnt drop in. it bottoms out on the flexplate before the bellhousing meets the block.... it still has to drop one more time... its just not going no matter what we do. the measurment your talking about is supposed to be 1-3/8" i believe. its only about a half an inch right now.

Re: torque converter installation

I know you have tried this but pull the converter back off spin 180 and drop it again.
It will go you just have to keep playing with it. Keep the part that inserts into the front seal lubed up with tranny fluid.
Try pulling it up slightly as you turn it, perhaps the front pump is turning as your turning the converter, pull up slightly turn and then back in.
Just throwing some ideas out there.
