Exclamation torque converter

Ive been having this problem for a while it sounds like a rattling coming from under the hood and transmission area.the rattling can be heard when you apply little pressure on the throttle and when it is cold.A friend of mine told me that my torque converter could be loose could this be the problem and how hard would it be to fix.thanks

Tighten the bolts up and also check for a cracked flex plate

Get under the car. Check for lose/missing bolts on the tranny cover (A4) and check the Cat. Conv. Shield and see if a few of the tiny screws have worked their way out. Other than that check for all exhaust clamps to be tightly secured and drivetrain parts for security. Usually if it was drivetrain related however you'd start getting violent kicks or bumps from under the car. Lose bolts in the exhaust manifolds or spark plug wire covers can cause this too if you have an exhaust leak. Check emissions fitting for security and tightness of fit.

Question you should ask yourself is is paying $400 extra for the fluid, correct tools, expertise and labor to do the job worth you not spending the time to do it yourself given you have the tools, time and know how to do it?

Also be sure they show you the flywheel/flexplate that has the crack in it with the tranny cover off. Just incase. You never know when it could be one of those well we started to do this and we found this, this, this, and this so we rebuilt your tranny and it will cost you $1500 have a nice day. Not saying that shop will do that but I've seen it done way to many times to not at least mention it. G/L. O yeah a new flexplate runs about $125 from JEGS for your info.
