Time to rebuild 4L60E - 303K miles!
Time to rebuild 4L60E - 303K miles!
Well she finally let me down.
I guess I can't complain with over 300,000 miles on a stock 4L60E. Don't let anybody tell you this isn't a good transmission if you don't beat it.
I left a message for Frank at CPT to discuss a performance rebuild. Gonna remove it tonight and drop it off on Friday. I'll update with my progress and how the new one performs.
Wish me luck!

Update - I removed the transmission last night. It took about 3 hours with air tools and jack stands. Not bad really. I think the toughest part will be putting the upper bolts back in for the bell housing. I did not need to remove the exhaust system and I only disconnected the tourque arm from the tail shaft leaving that in the car also. I used a transmission adapter for my floor jack to remove the trans but it was so tall I had a problem getting the trans out from under the car.
I couldn't jack the car up highter because the trans was sitting on my jack!
I eventually slid the trans off of the jack onto a piece of plywood and dragged it out. It's all good now.
I spoke to Frank last night at CPT and unfortunately he is in the process of moving and not able to take on new work for the time being. Since it is a daily driver, I am going to have to use a local shop which has done real good work for me in the past.
Frank was real helpful and even offered to speak with my local guy and impart some of his expertise on 4L60E's. Thanks for your help Frank.
Dropping it off today and I should have it back early next week.

Re: Time to rebuild 4L60E - 303K miles!
The original cam went bad around 90,000 miles. Starting getting a tapping sound from the #1 exhaust valve. I replaced it without pulling the motor. I used an LT4 cam, but not the hot cam since it is my wife's daily driver.
Other than that, the motor is untouched. I still love this car!

I got the trans back and installed it Thursday night. My rebuild guy told it was good and tired. He showed me the valve body plate (?) where these little ball valves press against holes in the plate. One hole was so worn that the ball was stuck in it.
My forward piston (?) was cracked and there was lots of other worn out parts. He used the Z-Pack for the 3-4 clutches and the Alto high energy band. Other than a total rebuild with new pistons, new sun shell, etc. everything is pretty much stock. Also, he rebuilt my OEM converter as I did not want to change the stall speed for now.
I did not install a shift kit as this is my wife's daily driver. I figured, why change what obviously has worked so well for 305,000 miles.
I have a small leak on the right rear corner of the pan gasket but other than that it went perfect.
It took me 3 hours to remove with jack stands, air tools and a transmission adapter on my floor jack.
It took about 5 hours to reinstall because I could not get the trans under the car while on the jack. My stands were as high as they would go and I did not have any help. I messed around with using wood blocks to elevate the trans so I could slide it onto the jack after it was under the car. That didn't work so I finally just balanced the trans on the floor jack without the adapter
and it went right in. I think the hardest part was getting the dip stick tube back in to the trans.
She is running good now. Let's see how long the motor holds up. Just did a compression test and everything looks good but I an starting to plan my rebuild now
