throwout bearing

How do you remove this? (95 formula m6) My chiltons manual is pretty useless. It says the bearing is suppose to come off with the transmission. Mine didn't, and in fact refused to come off with the transmission. I had to pull the clutch fork out a little bit and remove the tranny without the bearing.

It looks damaged so maybe that's why it didn't just come off.

Here's a pic, but it's a bit blury because the camera I have at work sucks *****.

I'd say the Chilton's manual is wrong, or at least inaccurate.

You do have to pull the clutch fork down to "disengage" it from the TO bearing. To remove the TO bearing from the clutch you need to take the pressure plate off, remove the retaining "c" clip and the bearing will come out. I couldn't really tell from your pic, but the TO bearing will have alittle play (or at least mine does).

What makes you think your TO bearing is shot to begin with?

I'll try and get a better picture tomorrow. The back part of the bearing does not sit flush, it's bent out of shape.

Here's another picture from a better angle. This one really shows what I'm talking about.

This pic looks like the lip is bent. Just curious but why did you pull the trans. in the first place? Was it making noise?

If you are getting a new clutch setup, you will get a new TO bearing with the pressure plate. If not, new bearings are somewhere around $80.

Re: throwout bearing

Well I took the engine out some time ago so I could get the heads ported and put in a bigger cam. While the heads were getting ported I decided to rebuild the synchros in the transmission and try and fix my reverse gear. I had planned to replace the throwout bearing at the same time because it has been making noise for about a year now.
