throw out bearing bad??
Hello all, I was wondering how you can tell if a throw-out bearing is bad.
When I start the car, I can hear a slight whine that goes away when I push in the clutch pedal.
I have also begin to notice a very small (about the size of a silver dollar) puddle under the trans (where it bolts to the engine). I thought it was oil at first, but I think its clutch fluid because I checked the master cyclinder and it was low (about 1/4 the way down).
I have the SLP Lightweight flywheel, SLP LT4 Clutch and PP /w throw out bearing. About 3000 miles on the clutch setup, and new Master/Slave unit from GM.
If I am leaking fluid, will that damage the clutch setup? The clutch doesn't slip, and I noticed the leak about a month ago but I don't drive the car often.
Thanks Guys,
Kevin

Re: throw out bearing bad??
that whine sounds very familiar, when i had a throwout bearing go out in my previous car (95 firebird 3.4 5spd) it whined really bad before it went completely out at which point it sounded like a banshee screaming whenever you tried to put it in gear. i dont remember any kind of puddles though, just the whining sound it made...

Re: throw out bearing bad??
Thanks for the reply RacingTiger. Its weird. sometimes it leaks, other times its fine. The whine isn't supernoticable... but its enough for me to notice it (I am super picky) I do have a light coating of clutch fluid on the tranny casing... but not enough to burn on the exhaust.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
