Thoughts on Spec Stage 3

I'm thinking of getting a Spec stage 3 clutch. What's everybody's thoughts or bitches about it?

They can chatter during breakin period. Also, I drive it hard and they can chatter if you slip them. Especially in reverse. It seams to work best if you use a fast clutch engagement. My spec locks up good and will hold the torque (97SS 383 - D1). Easy to install. I'm on my 2nd spec. Wore out the first disc. I don't like to slip them in traffic.

It's a great clutch but will chatter especially (a lot) during the break in period. The stage 2 + will handle just as much power with less chatter but costs more.

We have all Spec clutches for 10 % off right now (discount applied when order is processed).

My friend's still chatters long after the break-in period. If you're looking to get a flywheel too, the McLeod ST is about the best out there. I've been happy with mine for the last 25K miles.

I love how mine grabs and I love how it can handle a beating.

I HATE how much it chatters and how tempermental it is to drive around town.

Also, for some reason, after I get done beating the living daylights out of it, it engages sooo much smoother and drives a lot easier.

I also have an alum fly. It comes with a bolt-on weight for external balance assemblies like the stock LT1350. The alum fly really allows the motor to rev, but, you learn to drive with less fly-wheel inertia. I had to shim the starter for gear engagement. No big deal.

I know the Street Twin is the best but it is definetly not the cheapest. If the Spec can handle the power I would like to give it a try since it is less than half the price.

I hope you don't like your legs... I know a few people who had their spec clutches explode totalling their cars, and peices went flying into the passenger compartment too, they were lucky as hell they didn't get hit with hit. Spec didn't do anything about it either... My mcleod single disk holds fine though, even when I was making over 500/550 on spray. It chatters a little bit but not too bad at all.

If you are drag racing on slicks etc, you really should have a transmission blanket to protect you in the event of failure. ANY clutch or transmission can fail regardless of brand. There is no such thing as a clutch that will never fail.

Well...I went ahead with the mcleod street twin. It was $1410. Like I said it is not the cheapest but it better be the best. It comes with the billet aluminum flywheel.

That was probably a good decision. The stage 3's have a big reputation for being total junk. A lot of the time the springs break in the disc and then you have to pull the clutch. Everyone with one always says Spec is great to deal with and always would give them a new clutch, the problem is you have to keep installing clutches in your car.

I was already looking at about $900 for the Spec so why not go ahead with the best for another $500. I have only heard good things about the Street Twin.
