those with HOME MADE 8.8 rears in your lt1...
I know this is drivetrain but I have not had any luck getting answers to this question in that forum. I have an 8.8 pumpkin, some gears and an install kit. I have a shop that's going to do the welding, measure it, line it up on a jig, and make me a torque arm mount. That however, is not the problem....
The last piece I need is the conversion u-joint. I am only getting the 8.8 center section, not the driveshaft. Does that mean I need a yoke as well as a conversion u-joint? Where do I get it? Whats the part number for the yoke and for the conversion u-joint?
I will have this project done hopefully in a couple weeks. When I'm done I will make a complete write up for anybody else that wants to do it. Please leave it in lt1 tech at least for a day so it can get some views. Thanks.

I wish I could help you but I've been thinking about doing that same thing. Don't have the $$ together yet tho....when you do get it done and all figured out i'd love to have a write up of it because I'm fuzzy on quite a few things involved.
I'm planning on doing this myself in the next couple of months. I believe that the 8.8 has a 30 spline pinion gear. What is the spline count on the gm gear set? it is probably 30 but I'm not sure. If the spline count is the same just remove the pinion nut and reuse your old yoke. You will need to replace the crush sleve though.
Hope this helps.

Actually, both the 8.8 and the 7.625 use 28 spline axles of the same diameter, so that isn't a problem. That's what makes it so economical, you can reuse your stock axles and the stock differential in the 8.8 if you want to save money.
Back to the question at hand, that would mean I can use my stock yoke? Either way, the guy I'm getting the pumpkin from just emailed me saying he is going to include the yoke from his stock driveshaft. So I have the options of using either one...
That still leaves the question of the conversion u-joint. Where would I get it? Should I use my stock yoke or the 8.8 stock yoke??

I had to get a conversion joint for my LS1 drive shaft to 9 inch "truck yolk" I called a place in town, Clutch products
1-251-433-3696, they told me how to measure everything and I went down there and picked it up, it worked. Amazing.

So I would be using the 8.8 yoke right? I told the guy to send it with the pumpkin. Then I would need a conversion for a 10-bolt to an 8.8 correct? Where can I go get that from exactly? Summit or jegs?

I don't need Craig's number... I have already talked to him. I asked him and he said you can get it from advance or whatever... I didn't want to get too specific with the questions because I'm trying to build something that he sells and I wouldn't want somebody calling me like that. I'm pretty sure I have the right idea, I just need someone to confirm it. Reuse the 8.8 pinion yoke, and get a conversion u-joint that mates an LT1 driveshaft to an 8.8 yoke. Correct, yes or no?

I would bet craig would tell you what you need to make it work or would sell you the parts at a fair price.

The more I read about this the more I am interested in doing it or having it done. This is what I know so far.
Use the mustang rearend, either cut the axle tubes off, cut the 3rd/4th gen's to length and reattach so you have the LCA's mounts, springs, panhard and so on.
These are the questions I have;
1. Do you use the 8.8 axles and have them cut to length?
2. The yoke, I know its being discussed right now but still kinda confused.
3. The best way to make the tourqe arm mount, anyone have any pics of this rearend mod?
Thanks very much
