Think I have a problem with my T56

Wow just in time for the new forum...

Anyway, right now I'm on a trip to florida, and on my way down I noticed when I took my car off jackstands from doing my waterpump, when I would engine brake in first gear (just let off the throttle), it started grinding, kinda like the motor mounts went or something, I have no idea. Anyway, after I made that happen two times it stopped doing that, so I went on my road trip.

Anyway, I also noticed (before I left) there was a bit of a rattling sound at idle, like my input shaft was rattling. If I pushed the clutch in, it went away, and sometimes when i let go of the clutch the rattling went away completely.

I was wonderin' what was up and what I should look for and particularly, how much it might cost to fix. I do have a problem with my clutch since I put in the McLeod dual performance clutch, where it does not always disengage when I press the clutch (yes I do press the pedal to the floor). I know there's no way to bleed the clutch, so I kind of just accepted it as part of the clutch, but maybe not? Anyway, thanks in advance for the help guys!

OK lets start by bleeded the clutch. It is extreamly easy. Make sure resavior(sp) is full. Take the slave off the beel housing and point the hose up completely. Now just push the rod ALL the way in. Hold for a few moments. now let it back out. Repeat as needed. Now re-install. This works one bone dry Slaves

NOW if you have not done The Drill Mod I would do that first. All you do is take the hose off the master(one roll pin, DO NOT LOOSE). While holding in vise or with vise gripps drill out the restriction in the fitting to the size of the rest or the hole. I think you will be enlarging it from .060 to .120. this helps alot!

I would also look at the McLoud Adjustable master.

the sound you are hearing (with out hearing it) could be a bearing going bad.

Your fix could go from $300 to the price of a new trans. Last one I did was $2,700 installed. That included input, up-dated cluster and many other parts.

Then again the price you pay most times will reflect the Quality you get in return

Good luck!

I might suggest the clutch throw out bearing.

So you enlarge the fitting that's on the hose? Have you done this? Does it help with the problem of the clutch not fully disengaging sometimes? I imagine you'd have to bleed the system after doing this. I too have a McLeod Dual Performance and it works good for me, but sometimes it doesn't fully disengage. I have about 75 miles left on the break-in period, and I have not had it over 3k yet.
