tell me why i need a torque converter

I have a cc306 with jethots and some boltons...

well they told me with this cam and a stock torque converter my car would have no drivability... well they were wrong... my car never stalls, it brakes fine, it takes off the line just fine too... yeah only thing i cant do is torque brake it which is the same as if i was stock...

now i do a plenty of street racing, and i already dont hook if i smash the gas from idle... what the hell will a torque converter do for me? it'll only let me rev up my RPMs a lil more, and cause me to spin even more... launching at like 3200 rpms on street with my DRs would just make it look like as if i was standing still probably... even off of idle with the DRs i spin all of 1st...

so tell me why i still need a torque converter...

I dont care much about my track times there i can hook and take off like a bat out of hell and probably take off like .8-.9 off my times... But like i said, i do a bit of street racing, and there are from a roll races involved with some highway racing which starts at around 70-90

Thanks

If you ever race from a dead dig, you'll be in trouble. From a NASCAR start, you're probably fine.

You'd want a torque converter to get into your power band faster from a dead dig, thats if you've got the tires to hook it.

I was the same way, you just got to ride ina converter car. First time you rip on it you'll know why you need it. Its an awesome mod, really worth an honest 5 tenths.

Sorry to go off topic, but did you have it mail order tuned, or locally. I can't find anyone in s. fl with an lt1 edit.

So you guys are saying that I can drop in a CC306 (1.6RRs) into my 96 A4 and run it around without any problem for some months, until I get enough money to buy a stall.

not a single person on earth will reccomend that, except myself...

i know there are actually several ppl here that run the cc306 with the stock converter like myself, and all are fine with it...

some ppl say it will stall and crap, and these are the ppl that havent even seen a cam in their life...

it will be fine... you just need to get it tuned, so ur RPMs arent TOO low at idle, otherwise you WILL (sometimes) stall going from neutral to park and such...

get it... its totally fine

I ran a 233/239 .569, .577, similar to a 306, and had no issues at all on the stock converter. No traction to warrant a bigger verter yet either.

What do you have it idling at? How does it sound at idle? You said you are fine out of the hole......so I take it you didn't loose much low end torque??

if you want to miss a ton of potential for your car, you dont need a converter. If you want it to go fast(from a stop) get one.

Get some good tires on your car and when it does hook, you won't go anywhere. Car will bog down.
