TA performance rearend cover girdle worth it?

Im looking to get some gears pretty soon, and I was wandering if the rear end gear package from thunderracing is worth the $. Should I just get the gears for $200 or is the rear end cover worth the extra $200?

I personally don't have one, and never will. I've heard these are really only if you're street racing and only complement other parts like a new sway bar. If you're going to be racing enough to worry about your rear, you're better off investing in a 12 bolt or something similar. just what i've read and heard first hand.

i have one on my car and have made 30+ trips down the 1/4 with 295's and mods in sig along with a few burnout competitions and a lot of street racing, still going strong. It doesn't whine or clunk and i also have 4:10s

When I had my 10 bolt I had one. I got the one from Spohn for $139. I guess every little bit helps when it comes to the 10 bolt so I got it. If nothing else it sealed great and made for easy fluid changes with the drain plug. I never broke the rear running 11s, so I guess it may have helped.

It looks like it adds some strength to the rearend, but more so adds some visual character in my opinion.

before i knew better i put one on my car, still broke the gears. i was talking to allan futral (futral motorsports) and he told me that the girdle was a waste of money, it is more for side to side stress or something along those lines. basically he told me for drag racing it was a waste and that he never does them. as far as breaking gears goes, there is no way to tell if it really helps or not. i broke mine with a girdle and stud kit, on the street on hankook radials and i have a buddy that is making 439 rwhp and races on nittos without a girdle and he has never had a problem

FWIW, I'm going to do a gear swap shortly. The mechanic who will do the work (formerly with GMMG) advised that, in his opinion, the girdle was a waste of money. He hasn't steered me wrong yet, so I'm not getting one.
