T56 Tailshaft Bushing? Where to get it?
T56 Tailshaft Bushing? Where to get it?
I've called 2 dealers, 4 parts stores, 2 tranny shops, and one parts house and NONE OF THEM have a listing for the tailshaft bushing for a T56. I have mine apart and need to put it back together this week. Anyone know of an unlisted GM part number or a source to get this???? I'd prefere not to have to order and wait 4 days for shipping. I need to put this back together soon.
I don't have a pn for you, but I may have a lead. In an old issue of GMHTP, I remember that the tailshaft bushing was bad on Johnny Hunkins T56. The T56 was done by D&D Performance of Wixon, MI. Their number as of Sept 2000(GMHTP issue) was 248-926-6220. Here is a pic from that issue. Note that the tailshaft bushing is included in the syncro rebuild kit. Maybe they can help you out with just the bushing. Good Luck!

D&D is listed there and so is The gear Box.
basically the GM info said it was a non servicable item. I need to put it back together this week. So I went ahead and bought the bushing for the 700R4. When set into the tailshaft it is too tight to slip in the driveshaft yoke. I then used a brake cylinder hone and 'machined' the bushing. Took a while, maybe7-10 minutes of total hone time. the dirveshaft just slips in now. I'll put the housing back on the case tomorrow and test it again. In hind site, the original bushing was in good shape and I should have left well enough alone.
I'd recommend doing this if yours is bad or if you are doing a rebuild.
