T56 Still won't shift

ok so some of u guys might have read my previous posts about my T56 nightmare, this is what happened, got off the highway and about 2 lights after i shifted the car to neutral and when i tried to put it back in gear, it WOULD NOT go, so i towed the car home, installed a new clutch, pilot bearing, clutch slave and clutch master cylinder, and STILL the car will not allow me to shift into gear when it is running, when it is off i can shift fine, but as soon as i start her up and try to put it in gear it wont go, if i really really muscle it, it'll go, but i know thats not right, anyone have any idea what this could be?

thanks in advance

Re: T56 Still won't shift

When you force it, does it grind at all when it does go into gear? When it goes into gear, will it pull normally (no odd noises) when you let the clutch out?

It sounds stupid and elementary, but have you checked the shifter itself? Maybe something came loose....

If you were overdue for a clutch when this problem happened, I'd re-check my clutch installation and throwout/pilot bearing. Keep us updated.

Re: T56 Still won't shift

Most of the time it doesnt make any noise when i force it, it just goes into gear really hard, the shifter is also brand new, and ive had the trans out 3 times to recheck my clutch install, everything seems fine, and if i start it in gear and let the clutch out it goes as normal, no noises

thanks

Does the shifter look good and have lubrication?
Have you checked the fluid in the tranny?

Re: T56 Still won't shift

the shifter looks great and its lubed, the trans fluid is new and full, i talked to a guy who knows camaros and trannys pretty well and he said hes almost 100% sure its a clutch problem, like the input shaft is still spinning when i put the clutch in, which is why i cant get it into gear, so i think im gonna try a diff pressure plate and see what happens

Re: T56 Still won't shift

Mine shifted pretty hard when I first got mine setup and it was mostly because the clutch hydraulics were all screwed up. Bearings could also be an issue, and of course the pressure plate or clutch disk itself. Good luck...

Re: T56 Still won't shift

well i would understand shifting "hard" but this bastard is EXTREMELY hard, so im gonna put the stock clutch back in and see what happens, also when i have it apart im gonna measure the inside of the pilot bearing and the outside of the input shaft and make sure thats not binding me up, so hopefully by the end of the week ill figure something out, and theres really no way the hydraulics could be screwed up, all new, all sealed, all one piece from GM unless it was junk when i got it, so im gonna check the pilot bearing and slave cylinder tomorrow night and see what i find out

thanks

Re: T56 Still won't shift

Check your PP very closely.... that diaphram spring is constantly under pressure when installed and if something broke in it, then you could lose the ability to completely disengage it. It's a pull-style clutch, which means when you mash the clutch, the inner fingers of the diaphram spring is pulled out, which pulls the mating surface away from the clutch disk. Something could have broke or warped, causing the PP not to pull away from the disk, or not pull away from it evenly (like one side of the PP surface contacting the disk and the other off, kinda hard to explain without a picture or being in person).

Re: T56 Still won't shift

sounds as if the PP wasn't torqued correctly. When you Torque it there is a sequence to make sure the PP is even all the way around the flywheel/disc. That's where I'd start, after checking the PP itself.
