t56 question

I'm looking to get another fbody in the next week or so. I found an ok car. its a 95 hardtop m6. They only want 2k for the car. So I figure its a good start for a running project. They did say that 2nd gear was "out". He said it drives very strong in every gear and pulls hard, just no 2nd gear. Do I need the entire tranny overhauled or could it be synchros? How can i tell? What kind of price range am i looking at for a rebuild?

Thanks guys, hopefully I'll be back in a fbody soon!

More than likely its probably a synchro(sp) thats causing it not to go into 2nd. Any transmission that has done t56's before should be able to the work.

These guys used to be called T56Rebuilds.com. They were once a supporting vendor of this site, too, but they pulled out because they weren't getting any business from us. Not sure why they changed their name. Anyway, they're the best in the business, and their prices are very reasonable. You can send you trans to them and they'll do the work, or you can order a rebuild kit and do the work yourself.

Whatever you do, don't take it to the local tranny shop and let them charge you $3000 to "fix" it.

What? The 1A rebuild kit is $600. They send you the parts, you do the rebuild.

$950 is the starting price for having them do the work. Not sure where you saw $995.
