T56 owners ... how to fix reverse going out?

Recently picked up a '94 Z28 with a M6. Reverse is acting up. You need to keep pressure on the shifter or it will pop out of gear while backing up. I've never owned a 6-speed car before but have changed clutches on them and feel very comfortable taking the transmission in and out. Is this something that I can fix even though I've never been inside of one and what do you think it is and will cost in parts? Eventually I want to have either D&D or G-Force go through it but for now I would like to fix reverse myself if I could.
