T56 needs 1-2 syncro, shoud i buy it?

Hey guys.. My T-5 I think is on its way out, I have alot of plans for the car including a new engine which means the 171,000 mile T-5 just cant get the job done.. I found a tranny shop that does a core swap for 558.00.. not too bad for a rebuilt T-5 in my opinion.. however I have a local friend that replaced his T56 due to a bad 1-2 syncro, at least thats what both of us would assume since the only thing wrong with it is that its pretty hard to get into 2nd and grinds if you try.. the engine is going to be in the 350hp range.. i know even a rebuilt T5 will eventually break under that kind of load with powershifting... should i get the T56 and have it fixed? how much would it typically cost to have the T56 fixed.. I already know I have to buy a crossmember, bellhousing, hydrolics, clutch and whatever else.. im thinking that i should either wait for a good deal on ebay or stick with the T5.. just seems like after the 300+ repair+all parts for converstion its not a very good deal.. but maybe I am wrong, lemme know what you think guys

t56 is always a good choice. make sure that is all that it needs, though. D&D performance (ddperformance.com) sells a full carbon based synchro kit. you ight as well replace them all while it's out. i think the kit goes for 189 bucks and it will hold plenty of power and powershifting. most stock t56's are rated to 450lb.ft. i think. it'll hold fine

Not necissarilly a bad syncro unit. I has the exact same problem on my T56 BUT it wasn't the entire syncro unit.

The syncro has was called "blocker rings". They are fibrous rings, and there job is to rub up agaist the gear that is going to be put into mesh. By rubbing it, it brings the gear up to speed and can then be locked to the output shaft smoothly, with no grinding.

Just a little heads up... a few blocker rings are much cheaper than a whole synro unit.
