T56 input shaft and pilot bearing cleance ?
T56 input shaft and pilot bearing cleance ?
All,
I'm converting my '96 Impala SS to a T56 and am seeing a rather large clearance in the input shaft to pilot bushing/bearing.
The input shaft on my '96 T56 ( Firebird donor ) is 0.550. The ID of a bronze pilot bushing is 0.590, and the OEM needle bearing pilot is about the same, 0.588 or so ( tough to measure at top of those little needle bearings... )
This gives me about 0.040 clearance, and just putting the bushing or the bearing on the front of the input shaft while its sitting on my bench... ah... its got a LOT of lateral movement.
Can anyone tell me what the f-body tolerance is for this measurement. The donor tranny had 90k on it, and I don't know if 0.550 is an input shaft in need of replacement or not. But this just feels like about 2x the amount of clearance I'd like to have.
Thanks!!
