T56 Conversion questions

i have some questions about the conversion...

how do you pull the bolts out of the torque arm thru the top, when i go to pull them they get hung up on the top

and also pulling the steering column and knuckle.... how and why do you do this???

thanks in advance

Re: T56 Conversion questions

Torque arm bolts that attach to the differential? You've got to get a jack under there and jack up the body a little separate from the axle to get the room you need.

And you pull the steering column because there's no way you can get access to make a hole in the firewall and install the master cylinder for your clutch hydraulics without taking this step. To take it out- take off the trim on the bottom of the steering wheel, disconnect all wiring (careful with the yellow SIR system/airbag wires ), take out the three bolts on the firewall around the column, and disconnect the one bolt holding the column in under the hood.

Believe me, when you're trying to get that U-bolt around the master cylinder after you've made the hole, you'll be banging your head on the brake booster , you certainly don't need a steering column in your way too.

BTW careful with those clutch hydraulics. The seals in them are touchy.

Re: T56 Conversion questions

you do not have to pull the steering knuckle. you can do it all from inside the car.

this is a schematic of the master cylinder and where to place it. all the measurements and where to measure from.

i figured this would help

i would print this out. its dead on perfect. i drew this after i did a swap for a board member

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/vincen.../ph//my_photos

measure once then measure agian, then measure agian, then measure agian, then measure agian, then measure agian, then measure agian, then measure agian, then measure agian, then measure agian, then measure agian, then measure agian, then measure agian, then measure agian, then measure agian, then measure agian, then measure agian, then measure agian, then measure agian, then measure agian, then measure agian, then measure agian, then measure agian, then measure agian, then measure agian, then measure agian, then measure agian, then measure agian,

then cut and drill.

Mine stayed put too.... even though it took me some 2 hours alone to work the pedal assembly around it to make it seat (took off the clutch pedal, worked the rest of it in, and bolted the clutch pedal back in). Then drilled the hole and mounted the MC.
