T56 Conversion Question

I am curious as to what the purpose a part on the A4 shifter assembly is. I have no clue what it called, but I have a link to it for those who may have an idea.

The piece I am talking about is what looks like a solenoid with a rod coming out of the end, mounted toward what would be the front of the shifter.

Also, what needs to be done with the wires that come unplugged from this piece? Can the just be taped at the end or do they serve a new purpose with the M6?

Thanks,
Matt

Maybe something to do with needing to have your foot on the brake to shift it out of park?? or so you can't go from N to R or to P when the car is moving. I really don't know. Just a guess since nobody else has posted.

I think that keeps your shifter from coming out of park unless you have the brake pressed. It's not used on a T56 setup.

What the other two replies said. When you push on the brake it releases allowing you to shift out of park. There are metal notches that stop you from being able to shift to R without pushing the button down while driving.
