Re: t 56 rebuild

D&D does nice jobs from what i hear. they sell some very nice parts at decent prices too, so if detriot is too far(i think thats where it's at), then you can always order the parts from them and have a local reputable builder build it with those parts in it. I'm sure a lot of people sell good t-56 parts, but D&D i know for sure does.

Re: t 56 rebuild

if you rebuild your trans should you buy the viper outup shaft. How much power is the shock one good for.

I think the Viper output shaft maybe a little overkill. There are people holding some pretty serious power on stock shaft T56 trannies. The Viper shaft and housing is going to run you about $750. Don't get me wrong, it's a good upgrade but I don't think you'll need it with a properly prepped T56, (and clutch).

They can get pretty complicated. I had mine done at Liberty Gear, they specialize in manuals, they do all APE's transmissions, the guy I talked to was honest and straight forward. It all depends on how bad the trans is. I'm only paying 195 for labor to have it done right. I'm picking it up tomorrow for right around 800 total, I'm getting all new syncros, billet dogs, and a couple shafts.

It really isn't as bad as I thought. Basically you need a couple of pairs of good snap ring pliers, needle and flat type. A long puller, I modified a standard three jaw with 2 dollars worth of flat stock. Just a lot of parts, gears and snap rings. I used an install guide with pictures and the service manual. I took lots of pictures and it really wasn't as bad as I had thought. A hydraulic press would be a big help BTW, I got away without one, used two by fours and a weighted rubber mallet, but that's more of a pain. Great sense of accomplishment.
