Swapping Out Gear Sets

I would like to change the gears in the diff for performance purposes, and would like to know which gears I can use. The car is a 95 lt1 with an auto, so I assume the gears are 2.73. I want to go to a 3.73, or maybe 4.11. Can I pull the gears from any other 7.5 10 bolt rear and change to these ratios, or am I limited to what I can use as far as the donor car?

Also, I don't exactly know if the car has posi-trac, but two strips (magically) appear on the road all the time. The car also doesn't have traction control on it. Does this limit me as well as far as the selection goes?

So, what you're saying is that if I go with a 3.73 ratio, using a 7.5 crown and pinion gearset, i'm going to have to get some spacers so the diff will work properly?

when you buy your gears, you are going to have to make sure they are 2-series gears. typically 3.23's and lower (or higher depending on how you look at it) are 3-series carriers. since you already have a 2-series posi carrier, get the 2-series gears. these are typically slightly more expesive than the 3 series. not sure if you need the spacers if you get the correct series gears.

i know ive seen richmond had "thick" gears, when going to say 3.42 from 2.73's, i think the spacer is only if you are using gears that are made to work in the other carrier, so if your getting new, get the thick gears probly, or if you picking up a used set i guess you could buy the spacer, ill look for the link to a site that has everything im talking about, hope this helps.

I have access to all sorts of gearsets, although they're all used ones. I don't think I should have a problem getting a good set, but I have no clue as to how to set it up. I looked up the direct replacement gearsets for the '95 camaro, and I could get some from as far back as '77.

These shims that everyone is talking about. They space the carrier in the proper location to 'center' the carrier so it doesn't whine, or has perfect contact with the pinion right? I think it said I could also use an Auburn Posi unit with the 28 spline axles, and could get that from the front diff of a 85+newer blazer or something....
