Surging idle after stall install

I installed a used Vigilante 3200 stall a few weeks ago, and have one minor problem now. When the car is idling after the engine is warm, like sitting at a stop light, the engine bogs and surges, and has even stalled before. I increased the idle speed from 550 to 650 rpm in the PCM, and it doesn't surge nearly as bad anymore, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same problem and if they had a better way of fixing it. The engine idled perfectly before the converter, so I don't think it's anything else. Any ideas?

The car drives great with the converter with no other issues.

Bump your idle up to 850 RPM and it'll likely go away. If you switched over from a stock converter you just lost a whole lot of rotational weight, which will show up at idle as more lope. You may also notice that as soon as you turn off the key the engine stops immediately. Even with my idle set at 850 RPM in gear I noticed a large difference in idle quality, and if you recently had the battery unhooked the PCM will have to learn the idle again and it'll idle like crap for a while.
