As Injuneer and ABA383 posted, efficiency has everything to do with the pinion shaft centerline's relation to the center of the ring gear. The f-body Dana 60 just came out, so that's why few people have them at this point. I predict that the Strange Dana 60 will become the rear end of choice for most people wanting to upgrade from the 10-bolt. Most efficient, ABS compatability, possibly the strongest... what's not to like about the Dana 60? The only advantage the 9" has over the Dana 60, IMO, is that there's more out there, thus better availabilty of parts, gearsets, etc.

Re: Strange S60 rear-end

What diff's are available for this rear? Right now I have the Ford 8.8" at the top of my list because I want to do some AutoX and road races later, so the T2R is the diff I want to go with.

Anything comparable to the T2R that would work in the S60? How does the S60 compare with an 8.8"?

Who the eff cares about gear noise. Do you want a rear you can beat the **** out of or do you want a cadillac?
I personally am sick of baby-ing my car for fear of broken crap. So, I would put up with lots of noise to be able to throttle on my motor and just smile, instead of squeezing my butt-hole everytime I get on her to beat a crappy ****stang.

My spohn torque arm is supposed to introduce "lots" of road noise into the cockpit, But I cant tell a difference other than better traction. My motor is hopped up on crack, I want to be able to feel it every time I leave the stoplight.

But I guess some people want a street rod with cadillac manners. What fun is that?? Mine is comfterable, handles nice, and hauls ***. I dont hurt after driving it, and I dont go deaf after driving it. But, I dont loose many races. That is more fun then a little noise.

This was NOT an attack on you, just trying to put things in perspective. If you cant handle noise, go buy the new escalade. If you want to smile every time you leave a stoplight, buy the dana 60!!

HAHA. ok, well I am done ranting for tonight. I am so damn excited for this baby, I am salivating for this thing to come out and someone to run a GP on it!

umm, i guess you dont drive your car much...i want DEAD QUITE rear end, i don't think thats too much to ask for after spending over 2000+ bucks. It has nothing to do with wanting my car to be like cadilac, i think most people will agree that the whinny noise most of our $2k+ AFTERMAKET rearends make drives us absolutely nutts!

Re: Strange S60 rear-end

There's really no reason why, if set up properly, the Dana 60 should be inherently noisy. I'm not doubting that the noise problem exists... I'm just suggesting that there may be a solution for it.

Re: Strange S60 rear-end

I drive my car every damn day, from the day the snow melts until the day it returns here in MN. So dont tell me that crap. My car is a daily drive above all else, not a worthless track queen or weekend warrior. You must be able to tolerate some things, and trade some comfort for performance. That is the bottom line.

And yes, if the person knows his head from his buttocks he should be able to set it up pretty close to stock noise tolerance, if not just a little more.

But I guess, if it is too noisy, maybe it should be looked at. Something probably isn't put together just right.

Re: Strange S60 rear-end

I bought a Dana 60 with a 3.91 gear for $160 and put it in my Roadrunner, and it was nice & quiet If I could trade my 12 bolt for that, I would! Too bad they weren't out for the F-body when I needed one.

Re: Strange S60 rear-end

According to Strange's catalogue... you can get their Dana 60 with:
- Trak-Lok
- Detroit Locker
- Power-Lok
- spool

Now, that's their standard Dana 60... there still isn't any info on their site about the late F-body Dana 60. It's probably safe to assume that they'll offer the same diffs in them.

Re: Strange S60 rear-end

SpeedInc had a GP and I got the last spot. I am very happy with the product, install, performance and speedinc was great. Strange S60 was 3channel plug and play. No install issues. had to modify the aftermarket UMI TA, no big deal. broke it in and changed fluids before I beat on it. Ive got about 25 passes on it now. waiting on cold air to improve stock times. Plus memphis track has gotten to be a joke this year.

What did you have to modify??? I assume just some minor grinding of the bracket that bolts to the diff houseing.
