Stock Shifter Fails to "Center" itself in N?
Stock Shifter Fails to "Center" itself in N?
When I purchased the car, it had an issue with popping out of R and 3rd on occasion. Took it in to the dealership and found the synchro's on 3rd and R to be messed up and the gears in R worn down. Ended up getting a new tranny installed.
I got the car back nearly 2 weeks ago and every since then I've found it to be fairly hard to find 3rd when I'm getting on it. When I'm taking it really easy and just cruising around I don't really have that much of a problem. When I'm running out 2nd to 4K+ RPM's and go to upshift it feels like some sort of block is in the way. I believe that it's due to me hitting that area just between 3rd and 5th and the shifter won't go forwards any further.
TWO times now I've went in to 1st accidentally and had to slam on the clutch when the rear started bouncing. Thankfully it doesn't appear as though I've done any damage to it *hopefully*. I believe that's happening because I bring the shifter over to the left a little too far when I'm trying to back it over to get in to 3rd.
Something I've noticed thats different since I got the car back, is that the shifter doesn't seem to center itself quite as quickly when you put it in neutral. When I take it out of 1st, 2nd, 5th, or 6th it feels like there's a half second pause before it goes back to the center. I have to put a small amount of pressure myself to get it to slide back over quickly. I know that generally when going 2 -> 3 you pretty much just have to push forwards and let it guide itself in to place but with the new setup it doesn't seem like that's possible.... not at least when you're trying to do it in a hurry.
Is there something I can do to diagnose/fix the problem myself?
With the old tranny I never missed a shift and had no problem at all with it shifting wise. They only had the car in the shop for 10 days so I wouldn't think my skills had enough time to get that crappy
I figured that driving on it with the new feel for a while would help out but evidentally it hasn't.
