Stock Flywheel Vibration?
Stock Flywheel Vibration?
I did an A4 to M6 swap and I have a vibration now. It vibrates pretty good at and above 2500-3000rpm. The only thing I can think of is the flywheel (stock). I bought it off of a buddy of mine who had just had it turned. Would the factory balancing not be right for a motor that has been internally balanced and blue printed? I didn't have any problems with my stock flexplate, but then again, the flywheel is much heavier. I really didn't want to pull the tranny back out, but I'll do what is necessary. What do you guys think?

Does anyone know anything about this? I need to find this vibration before I start driving the car again. I guess if no one knows anything, then I can pull the flywheel back off and have it zero-balanced. Has anyone else had this problem or know of something it may be? I appreciate it.

Yes that flywheel is supposed to be zero balanced. Take it to a shop and have it and the PP balanced together. I actually pulled my transmission tonight to do this exact thing. My car had a vibration ~1400 from a ground down billet flywheel that wasn't rebalanced.

Re: Stock Flywheel Vibration?
You stock flexplate was not neutrally balanced from the factory
Usually 355's aren't internally balanced. Double check your flexplate and use that as a guide for your flywheel.

The flexplate wasn't balanced from the factory. It was balanced with my rotating assembly. Why woudn't 355's usually be internally balanced? You can internally balance anything, if you want to pay for it. The flywheel is different than the flexplate though. I'm taking it to a machine shop to get it balanced. I have to wait until the guy balances a 1 piece rear seal crankshaft so I can get it done. All he has right now is 2 piece seal cranks.

True statement; that's why 355's aren't usually internally balanced. If your flexplate was used to balnced the 355 rotating assembly (as it should have been), then my statement above is still true: "Double check your flexplate and use that as a guide for your flywheel."
