Hey guys.. two question I need answered.. First, I would assume that some LS1's came with steel driveshafts?? I know mine is, just wondering if it came that way or if some joker before me put an older model shaft in it.. Next question is that I have done search after search and never found a concrete answer.. is my car a 2:73 or a 3:23?? I dont have a tag on my rear so no luck there.. however I can tell you that at 70mph.. my tach is reading right at 2K.. MAYBE even slightly lower, like 1975K... I got 245-45-16's on it.. Answers would be great Thanks in advance, as always

 

Not sure if any LS1's came with steel driveshafts. My brothers 02 z28 came with an aluminum one. We contemplated switching his with mine when he sold the car but we never got around to it. Maybe that happened to yours.?

LS1 cars equipped with auto trans and 2.73 rear gears came eqipped with steel driveshafts.

the 3.23 geared auto cars got the alum, as did all the m6 cars

Ok.. I guess that answers my question then.. which means I got double screwed.. Not only did I get a car with HORRIBLE gears but I also got the crap shaft.. Anyway, the only other thing I was wondering about is when doing my search I read that something is different with 2:73 cars with 1st gear.. If I remember its something to do with not being able to manually go into first.. but I can do that.. I have all 4 gear selections on my shifter and it will manually downshift into 1st when I select it.. well except when im going way to fast to get into 1st which im sure is just the tranny protecting itself..

 

I believe the first gear lockout was only on LT1 cars. BTW, your RPO code sticker on the door will tell you what gears the car came with.

GU2 : AXLE REAR, 2.73 RATIO

GU4 : AXLE REAR, 3.08 RATIO (V6)

GU5 : AXLE REAR, 3.23 RATIO

GU6 : AXLE REAR, 3.42 RATIO
