stay with the 4l60e or move on to another type of tranny?

Well I have just gone through my second rebuild of my 4l60e in the last 5 months or so. And I can't make up my mind what I wanna do with the transmission. So I'm comin to yall for some help and opinions on what I should do. My main choices are stick with the 4l60e, swap in a 6speed, or go the th350 route. I like 4l60e cuz its an auto and I race my car when its working maybe2-3 times a month. Its easier on the 10 bolt. Draw backs are gas mileage since gas is gettin stupid expensive. The th350 would be a lot stronger then the 4l60e and I could still race with it and be fine. Only real draw back is the loss of OD. 6speed swap would be cool cuz I could still race but wouldn't be as fast since 10 bolt and et streets don't really go hand in hand. And gas mileage would def be a lot better. So all that being said, if yall had to choose what would it be. A built 4l60e, 6 speed, or th350. I figure they'll all be about the same price give or take a lil bit.

i would go with a TH400 instead of a TH350. but that is just my .02

if it HAS to be one of the above, ido ANY of them other than the 4l60e. it is a great tranny, just when u get them down in the low 12's, they arent very reliable anymore and u will most likely keep breaking it.

I would definately ditch the 4160e. Electronic transmissions are nice. but that thing can't handle power at all. If you've done multiple rebuilds already I'm sure you know this. The 350 is much more robust, but no OD. so I wouln't go to it unless you want a consistant track car. I guess the TH400 is an option. A rather cheap option too.

Personally It would take me about two seconds to decide. I'd find a 94-96 T56.
Better gas milage, more fun, and you can get away with larger gear sets.
To me it's worth losing a couple tenths in the quarter mile.

Thats the one thing I don't like about swappin out for a th350 or the 400. There is no OD. This is still a street car. When it runs ( keyword there is WHEN) it gets taken out on trips, to work, i drive it to the track etc. But I do still like to race, and I'm worried if I buy a 6speed for it I'll pop the 10 bolt. But with gas going through the roof these days the extra gas milage would be very nice. Damn disicions.

there is no doubt about it my man. that WILL bust the 10 bolt behind a 6 speed!!!! it wont last more than 2-3 runs. if u plan to run at the track, your only choices that are going to hold up are:
Th/350 or TH400w/ 10 bolt

or
T-56w/ 9"

You want the ultimate go with a TH400 w/a Gear Vendors OD. Bulletproof with OD.

Otherwise you should check out www.levelten.com , they make a 4L60E to handle 800HP/650lbs torque.

Hope this helps

my 4l60e was built by 12SECZ on the board, and went 2 years of low 11 sec runs and daily driving before a freak breakage of the output shaft took it down.

the 4l60e can be built to handle power if the guy knows what he is doing.

So you say he does good work? How do I get in contact with him? Can he build one to take ~450rwhp? And the most important question how much? I'd really like to keep the od auto.

he built mine and it lasted 2 years and many many many low 11 sec runs ( as inb 11.0-11.2) plus daily driving. only reason it's out is somehow i broke the output shaft of the 4l60e

pm him on the board,or do a search for his name and get his email.
