Stall Speed for modded LS1

I am going to be buying a 1998-1999 Z28 here really soon. I am going to put on these mods, if they are not already installed on the car:

Hooker Competion Headers
Hooker Cat-Back Exhaust
Thunder Racing CheaTR heads and cam package with 7.375 pushrods
3.73 gears
AI lid and K&N Filter
I am also going to get the engine and everything professionaly tuned

I am going to get a torque converter as well. I need to drive and automatic because of a shoulder injury. I was wondering what stall speed I should get based on these mods? I am going to guess I will be around 400-425rwhp and 400rwtq.

Again, there is no such thing as "cheaTR heads".

Seriously, I didn't know what you were talking about, but I do know what AFR205cc heads are.

Back to the converter, the Vigilante 3200, "0" pump converter. Will flash above 3200 at WOT, but will be very drivable. Be sure to get the biggest cooler you can for your transmission. Keeping your fluid fresh and cool are going to be the two biggest things you can do to help prolong the life of a automatic transmission.

Re: Stall Speed for modded LS1

Many people are using much larger stalls then the 3200. I ran a 3600 in my full bolt on 99 Trans Am and cut 1.52 60ft all day, a buddy of mine who was also just bolt ons had a 4000 stall and cut 1.4XX 60s as well. Other then the higher stall being loose for the street driving high way driving wasn't bothered after it locked up. IMO I would go with a 3800-4000 stall, you'll like how loose it is pluse see better times at the track. These LS1's need to be in the higher RPM band for the track, a high stall does just that.

Re: Stall Speed for modded LS1

I am not really worried about times at the track. I looking to make this a street car so I need a car that we be a good daily driver plus be able to smoke almost everything on the road. I know what I want to get and everything except for a torque converter. I have read that high stall speeds are good for the track and that, but I need a stall speed that will allow me to drive my car like it has no mods too. I am trying to build a sleeper for pretty much street use only. Let me know what stall speed you think is best for this type of driving.

If you asked the same question at LS1tech, they would be saying the same thing. Ask here and people will recomend a 2800-3000 stall.

No, I had a moser 12blt and M/T slicks.

FYI the 3600 stall I had had good street behavior, it was loose enough to know that you had a stall but in no way made DD on the street a pain. A 3200 stall gives you near stock like driveability, maybe thats what you should be looking at, but I wouldn't go any lower then the 3200.

Im getting that feeling to lol. There should be a rule of thumb when asking for what stall to get on camaroz28.com. Take the highest stall recommended and add 600rpm. j/k

2800-3000 is too tame IMO, that would be the next step up from stock. My advice to the thread starter would be to figure out where he wants his car to be and buy the stall for that set up and let the rest of the car grow into the stall. Some will think that stupid advice but if you want to buy just one stall then I dont see the problem. If thats a 2800 stall then im glad you picked a stall best to liking, enjoy

Re: Stall Speed for modded LS1

Jay, even though a 3200 stall isn't that big, with traction it could easily knock 1/2 second off at the track. Keep this is mind when wondering if it's big enough.

Re: Stall Speed for modded LS1

Thanks Ben. I have decided on getting the Vigilante 3200 lock-up Torque Converter. I think that that is a good choice based on everything I am looking to do. After I do these first mods, it will be a few years until I upgrade again. I will more than likely supercharge the car as well upradge some internals, but that is a few years away yet. Thanks again everyone for your input.
