SS needs clutch, what kind, easy install?

My 96 SS is being delivered next weekend and it needs a clutch. I called autozone and they have one by Cumberland for $279.99. When I started searching around here on the subject I heard some bad things about clutch kits from autozone. So what's the story? Should I buy from them or somewhere else? The car has a few minor mods, but nothing major. Im not going to take it to the track or abuse it...im just going to drive it. Will this set up be good enough. Also, the lady at autozone said it's an easy install and comes with instructions. Is this a do it yourself kind of job?

Let me know what you think.

If you're just daily driving it the clutch should be just fine.

The clutch job isn't really for someone that's never done it IMO, as there are some important things that need to be pointed out along the way. Have a buddy help you, that tranny's kinda heavy!

You might be able to do the job yourself the first time. At least get a Chilton's or Haynes manual. The only way I'd do it by myself again is if I had a transmission jack.

The Auto Zone clutch should be fine as a daily driver. As for the installation...it's pretty straight forward. The key to doing a hassle free clutch swap is getting the car up high enough to manipulate the tranny jack into the position that you want with the tranny on it.

Thanks. How much should I expect to pay for an instal and resurfacing of flywheel? I got a quote for $340 today. Let me know what is reasonable...or if a guy can just do this himself.
