Spun an axle in my Eaton at the Track

Friday evening at the Track (Southwest International Raceway) I broke something in my differential on my very first launch. I didn't get 20 feet. I had thought that I broke my ring and pinion, but when I took it apart today, I found that I had spun the axle splines on the passenger side of my Eaton Posi. I had built this rear end as beefy as I could about 20,000 miles ago with a TA Cover, Studs, and a solid pinion spacer (Crush-Sleeve Eliminator). Well I almost wish the gears had broke because this might be really expensive.

Axle Damage

This also damaged the splines inside the Eaton unit. Does anyone know if the Posi can be repaired or is it junk? I really don't have the cash to shell out for a 12 bolt right now. If I can get the Eaton repaired and buy a new axle I might be able to get by for a while.

PS: 315/35/17 Nitto Drag Radials hook pretty well when properly heated.

hey, i might be able to help you out a little bit. I just bought a moser 12 bolt a month ago. i got it put on already so i really have no need for my old rear end. a local guy was gonna buy it from me but ended up being a no show. ill give the local guy another day or two to give me a holler, but if he doesnt show, i'd be willing to sell you my axles for pretty cheap. then ill just junk out the rest of the rear end. send me a pm on the axles if your interested.

I've got a 3.42 stock 97 Trans AM rear complete minus brakes. You can have it for the price of shipping. I'm in the process of moving and no one locally wants to buy a greasy high mileage 10 bolt.

Appreciate the offers, but I really don't want to monkey with this rear end more than once. If I run a stock rear end in this car again I’ll just break that one too (only 5000 miles on the 383). If I'm going to replace the rear end I think I'm going to have to suck it up and get a 12 bolt.

Again I do appreciate the offers but I think i'm gonna pass.

Thanks

Hey about what time did you do this deadly run? I was at SIR on friday, I saw your car. You did a few runs before it died right? The traction that night was horrible. My 2 friends (one with a red WS6 TA with Z06 Wheels, and one with a green 93 formula A4), were spinning like crazy. The 60 foot times were like 2.7.

This happened on my first run at around 6 that evening. So I didn't even make one full pass before it broke. You likely saw my getting towed home though.
