Speed shifting
Speed shifting
I know some people keep the gas floored and just use the clutch when shifting. So, I was wondering how well would it work if I set my rev limiter at my shift rpm and just used the clutch while not letting off the gas. That way the car would not seriously over rev. Does this sound like a good idea........or just stupid?

On the other side, everybody agreed, that powershifting is really hard on your tranny and drivetrain. I occasionally do it, but rather than keeping the pedal to the metal between shifts, I just back off slightly to about 60-70%, and tap the clutch quickly at the same time...
Hope this helps,
I can tell you this much. When My friend first had his M6 97Z and I had my A4 95 TA, we use to go for runs on this back road that was really clear. We both had cold air and I had a catback. At the first couple of times he would NOT power shift and was shifting at like ~5600rpms or so and he would always be 1.5 car lengths BEHIND me at about the 1/4 mile mark....The second he started powershifting at 5800 rpms he would be .5 cars AHEAD of me at the 1/4 mile mark. So I know, when done right, it does get you a few more tenths.

Claude

If you do it correctly you break a lot fewer parts. It's the learning that's costly. It's a lot easier to learn on someone else's car but that's probably not an option. I was taught long ago by an expert test driver at the "company's" expense.
I don't recommend not lifting at all, but if you flat-foot it, give it a little clutch and shift llike you were trying to tear the stick out of the floor. Quick is good. Shift at the best rpm not necessarily just before rev limiter. You need to take a little torque off the trans input shaft to get it to shift unless maybe you are John Heinrichy.
