Spec Stage 4 Clutch Traffic?
Spec Stage 4 Clutch Traffic?
I am looking to purchase a spec stage 4 clutch but have heard that in traffic it tends to heat up. I guess this is bad. Also if the heat is bad for the clutch do I just pull over to let it cool down or can I just put it in neutral? Also do these performance clutches last a long time?
Re: Spec Stage 4 Clutch Traffic?
what is your horsepower level? or future use plans? the spec stage 3 can handle 650rwhp, think your gonna need more then that? the stage 4 is a competition clutch, cause its not made for stop and go traffic.

Re: Spec Stage 4 Clutch Traffic?
The spring were my reason for going with the SPEC IV. To assist in streetability I went with the 'F' disk. It is an upgrade to the standard stage 4 disk, and instead of pucks, it has the clutch pad material all the way around the disk. SPEC claims 850+ ft-lbs at the flywheel holding power with stage 2 drivability. The pad looks nothing like the other spec clutches out there, the material almost appears to be copper. You will not find this clutch on SPEC's website, but just give them a call and they can fill you in on it. It's not cheap, but PM me if you want a few pointers about who to talk to. I just got mine in yesterday, so I will be buttoning everything up tonight and taking it for a drive at that point. I will try to update later this week as far as stop and go etc.

That was a stage 2 btw, but they use the same sprung hub. I was easy on that clutch. It lasted less than 15k miles.
Re: Spec Stage 4 Clutch Traffic?
Well I now have about 150 miles on mine, and holy cow its grabby. It is possible to slip the clutch, but its a fine art, and it does chatter a little. However, these symptoms are going to be common among any clutch with this holding capacity. To my surprise, the clutch pedal is actually the same or possibly lighter than with the lt1 disk/lt4 pp setup I had before, however that may partially be due to the clutch being bled for the first time in 84000 miles. The only time that I get audible chatter is low rpm (1300-1600) in 3rd or 4th gear while trying to quietly accelerate past a cop
