SPEC stage 4 clutch slipping??????
Well I went to the track last night to get some seat time in my car after some mods. I installed a CC306 cam, hooker LTs, mufflex y-pipe, electric w/p, milled .020 heads, mild port work (no bowl work), SPEC stage 4 clutch, LCAs, relocas, SFCs, and some other minor stuff im forgetting. I wasnt expacting to turn an amazing time cause it was pushing 90 degrees and I dont have the computer tuned yet. I ran 13.18@108.22 with a 2.13 60 foot and a 13.08@108.1 with a 2.03 60 foot. But on the last run I made It didnt feel like the clutch was grabbing between gears at all. It felt like I was spinning really bad, but im pretty sure I wasnt spinning 275 drag radials into 4th gear. I only have about 2000 miles on thes clutch and I was wandering if anyone else has had this problem. Thanks

Possibly an intake manifold oil leak at the rear, if oil gets down to the flywheel, it could cause some slipping. Another possiblilty might be the rear main seal.
If you want to look, you can take the starter off and try to see if there is oil splattered all over the flywheel, you will be able to tell if it is happening.

Yeah I didnt think of that. Man I hope its not an oil leak then I know that SPEC wont fix it. I checked the rear main seal for leaks when I installed the clutch but who knows, it might have started leaking.
Yeah I took alittle extra precoution when I was breaking it in. I drive most of my miles on the highway so I took it easy on it for the first 1000 miles instead of the first 500 like the instructions say.
Well I just got off the phone with SPEC and they told me to send them my clutch and flywheel so they could see what was happening. They were as clueless as I am on why it could be slipping.
I have a stage 4 also, i broke it in for 500 miles and i still slipped. so i pulled it and sent it along with my flywheel to spec. they inspected the flywheel and said it looked good the clutch just needed more break in. the clutch disk was so glazed up and the pressure plate and flywheel hot spoted already. i want the clutch replaced so i can sell it and buy a street twin. no way it should slip this early and often
94Z286SPEED what did SPEC tell you when they sent your stuff back? Did they just say sorry your S.O.L. or what? Did they say anything about rebuilding it? They want me to send mine to them. But if they arnt gonna replace it I might as well not mess with it. Let me know. Thanks

definitly send it back. there are a few of us out here that have had failures so they will have to do something. I.E. replace or refund purchase price or no one will buy from them again. who did you get the clutch from?
I have a Spec Stage II... I had some problem with it for a while after the break in period.
I even change the slave/master cylinder with no luck.
Two things I think fixed it.
A good bleeding of the system and time to wear the clutch in some.
Right after the break in I went to the road course and may have sort of glazed it...but one whole weekend at the drag strip after I bled on the system....then it has worked perfectly since.

I got my clutch from Forcefed High Performace in Kentucky when they were having there sale on them. I would be happy if I could just get a new disk or have it rebuilt. I dont know if I might have had a rear main seal leave or not either. I cant find any oil but who knows. Im gonna go to the track next friday and see what happens then. Hopefully some more track time might break the glazing if there is any.

I spoke with Brad at Force Fed yesterday i believe he was trying to get a hold of you. Once it gets glazed there is no way to unglaze it . it will continue to slip more and more until rendured useless! I would get a hold of Brad this weekend and take suggestions from him.
