Spec stage 3 is in WOW
Spec stage 3 is in WOW
I only have about 100 miles on it....Its the spec 3 with carbon 6 puck.... No chatter all this thing does is grab...it feels like it just wants to be launched and nothing else.... I dunno why people were saying it was bad for the street... I love it I mean I know theres only 100 miles on it but if it stays this way I will buy one after the other..... Great clutch
The ceramic version chatters pretty bad....but it doesn't bother me. I think the main reason people say it's bad is because they try to slip it. If you engage it there...of course...is no chatter.

Yeah you are right about that its really not that hard to get moving without bucking it even by just fully engaging it. But theres no point to trying to slip it...cuz it aint gonna happen
I love mine! Your right about engagment. Its either on/off. I have the 6 puck stage 3, BUT spec has started to combine all their materials (carbon, ceramic, kevlar) all into one disc, which is the one I have. Have about 800 miles on her. The first few hundred were rough, when i first pulled her out of the driveway I was like "How the hell am i going to drive this" its gets ALOT less harsh around the 500 mile mark, just dont beat on it to much till then. Great thing about these types of clutches is they dont ware out as much as OEM, so it will work and work and work, untill one day it dies. So you will have the same feeling/grabing throughout the life the clutch until its time for a new one. Spec told me they haven't had ANYONE using it as a daily driver (stage 3) ware one out yet. Good news
NVetro THANKS FOR THAT POST, I just put my xpad in and its got about 70 miles on it. Not a bad clutch but with the woman in it trying to drive "nice" is ridiculus and she Bitches up a storm since the reason I got rid of the 93 was extreme crap like that.....
Ohh well she'll REALLY like the 230/228 on a 112LS I just picked up
Thanks for the good news I"ll patiently wait for the 500 mile mark!!
I'm still breaking it in but it is a grabby ****

well now im at 300 miles....(yeah ive been driving alot because I wanna go to the track tomm) and it is getting better but still grabs wayyyyy hard. Oh well I hope it stays this way
Yea its a GREAT clutch. Spec has people that just dump the clutch at 5000 rpm on drags and they haven't broken the clutch. Seems like they did good work combining all their materials. I am thinking more and more about 223/230 112 lsa cam, thing is, I WANT 400rwhp BAD N/A, will that cam get me there? Its a small goal of mine
Its funny to watch someone else try and drive my car the first time. Just about everyone thats drove it stalled it first try LOL. Of course i was the same way at first
Later

yeah I suprisingly didnt kill it but almost a couple of times your just waiting so long for it to engage then right before you think you have the pedal out all the way BAM!!! you launched it LOL
Spec uses very tiny springs in their clutches, at least in their 6-puck Stage 3. Went through 1 from Sept to Jan (caused by bad pilot bearing and tranny) rebuilt everything with pilot bushing instead of bearing so less play, then in July went through another one, both times blowing the springs. Had the transmission checked for excessive play or runout, was still within factory specs.
So I decided to do some research, made some calls, turns out, Spec uses the SAME spring center hubs from their 4-cyl clutches as on their LT1 clutches. Didn't believe local clutch shop till he showed me them side by side. Made in China part also.
No more Spec for me, going to get something that holds up next time. This was on a basically stock daily driven car with only intake and catback mods and NO track time or racing.
Also, apparently these things last up to about 10K or so fine, then you have problems with the springs, which SPEC always will tell you is a input shaft problem because their clutches aren't faulty. They will warranty or pro-rate the clutch WHEN it does blow, cust serv is good, but the product is crap. If you are able to check out their 4-cyl clutches or even just compare how cheap and tiny the Spec springs are to even a stock or ANY other aftermarket clutch for LT1, you will see what I mean.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
