Spec + Series Clutches

Has anyone ran the Spec plus series clutches do work as advertised. They say the 3 + has the holding power of the spec 5 but with pedal feel as good or better than the spec 3.

Re: Spec + Series Clutches

I went with the stage 4F, which is basically the 3+ with out the springs. I guess the material is a little different too. Pedal is near stock, but engagement happens very quickly. I can slip it now that I am used to it, but stop and go traffic is an art form. It does chatter a bit, but its rated to 850 ft-lbs so I can deal with that. I just had it at the track, and with back to back passes cutting as good as 1.67 60's on slicks, it showed no signs of giving up.

It is my understanding the pressure plates in all LT1 spec clutches are identical. That Pressure plate is an LT4 pressure plate which is incapable of being modified, improved, beefed up etc. The PP's are all made by one company,Valeo.

Its the disks that are different for all spec LT1 clutches. Pedal feel should be the same for all Spec LT1 clutches.

I have no personal experience with their products but the stage 2 is said to be outstanding. The stage 3 has killer gripping power but takes some getting used to.

PM sent.

Stage 2 outstanding? Outstandingly weak. I hated that clutch. I couldnt hardly get a second gear scratch. Those springs absorbed so much power, then they flew out. Stage 3 has springs too. I wouldnt have any spec clutch with springs.

I now have a stage 4. No springs. I love it. Drives almost like stock. No chatter at all. Chattered twice within the first 50 miles, in reverse. I can easily get a 3rd gear scratch now Great clutch. No reason at all to waist time or $$ on stage 2 or 3.

My stage 3 now. I have talked to various transmission guys around town, says the stage 3 has never been a problem for them. Not once have they had springs fly out or anything. I'm liking it.

I got 1/2 price on a spec 4. I would have rather got a clutch that held up in the first place. I absolutly hate pulling the tranny in my garage with a regular ol' jack, by myself. It sucks. Plus having it down for weeks while I send the old clutch in, wait for it to get inspected, and then wait for the new one to arrive. Its BS. I do however really like the stage 4. I just think that should be the only clutch they sell, because their sprung hubs suck.
