Snapped driveshaft in half!

My friend has a 98 6 speed z28. At the track sunday he snapped he driveshaft in half right at the middle. The driveshaft looked horrible. When he took the car home, he took off the differential cover and springs and chunks of metal fell out. I think he needs a new limited-slip and new gears. What is the best and cheapest differential and gears, and also a driveshaft. Thanks for your help.

time for gears..
hehe

dont go cheap!
go strong!

hehe
what is he making power wise or what are his mods?
That helps..

I suggest strange gears by US gear since they were pretty solid for me after I trashed a set of auburns..

He may want to go to some 3.73's or 4.10's

I suggest www.thunderracing.com their prices are decent and service is great.

by the time you spend money on gears and a differential...why not just get a 12bolt?

that way you dont' have to worry bout busting it up again.

specially if he really races it....slicks and all that, and plans for more power in the future

I agree but a 12 bolt also costs over $2000.

yea, seems like the chances are, he'll probably break another 10 bolt anyways..

and you can seriuosly screw things up if the next time the 10 bolt breaks, it totally binds up screwup up your engine and tranny while sending the car into a wall...

Has anyone tried a Powertrax no slip locker?
Any other suggestions would be helpful, Thanks.

Did you mean he snapped an axle or something, not the driveshaft?!?!? I can't imagine a driveshaft splitting in the middle?? I've heard of them twisting (happened to my dad's old '69 SS) or shearing off at the U-joints, but not snapping!!

I CAN believe that the axle snapped, and/or the gears broke though.

His car makes about 370 to the wheels and he was using ET Streets at a sticky track. What happened was the limited slip came apart durring the burnout and jammed a piece of metal in between the ring and pinion, then he dumped the clutch at the line and the rear end locked up causing the driveshaft to rip in half. We pulled off the differential cover last night to see every piece of the limited slip laying thrashed at the bottom of the rear end. Will aftermarket gears and posi with a girdle hold up to 370 rear wheel with ET Streets or will it be a waste of money?
(Whats up Zach this is Shaun)
