Question small leak from rear end

where the shaft goes into the differential I have some leakage. after a week in the garage I had a spot the size of a nickel. as with anything anywhere leaks are not good but how concerned should i be?

is this something easy to fix? do you have to go through the diff cover to replace the seal, o-ring or what ever is failing or can it be fixed from the shaft side? forgive me I don't know a whole lot about rearends. thanks for the help and info.

Are you talking about the front side where the drive shaft get connect?
If so it easy just a seal an air gun would make things easier but you can do it with hand tools.
Or is it leaking by the wheels?
Let me know and I will get bake to you tomorrow.

Pinion oil seal. Just a tight locationto to work in and the pinion end nut requires special attention to reinstall (could be a problem).

Yes

To add to the problem the car has turned into a one wheel pealer. Is my limited slip going out? Are these problems possibly related? Thanks

Yea I hate to say it but yes your limited slip going.
And no they are not related. sorry
For the seal all you do is disconnect the drive shaft take the big nut off don't remember what size it is and just pry the seal out.
To put the new seal in you can just tap it in with a small hammer or use a big socket and hammer it on with that make sure it goes on strait.
Then put the big nut on and torque to spec or if you have an air gun use that.
The only thing with the air gun is there is a crush sleeve behind the seal and if you put to much torque on it you can crush it too much and throw you gears out of alignment.
Doing the limited slip is easy.
You have to pull you brakes off take the rear end cover there is a big pin in the middle that has to come out there is a bolt holding it in.
then you just push one of the axles in use a pen magnet and pull the C-clip out then pull the axle out.
You do the same thing on the other side.
Once you do that you can unbolt the center and pull it out.
When you pull it out there will be shims on each side make sure you keep the where they are IE left on the left and the right on the right.
Best thing to do now is take you new one and your old one to a machine shop and have them press new bearings on because you can't use the old ones and have them swap the gear too.
Then it's the reverse to put it back together.
Just make sure you torque the bolts to spec and make sure you put the oil and the additive in "don't use synthetic" that will cause problems.
I would just buy a repair manual I might have missed something along the way.

Thanks, I think I jumped the gun on the one wheel peal. One side was just producing more smoke or it appeared that way. I drove by later and there were two equal tracks down the road.

And thanks for the info on the seal, seems to be easy
