Slipping clutch! but for how much longer?

Guys clutch is slipping and was wondering how much longer it will last before coming completely out. I guess it pretty hard to guess something like this. No smell from clutch burning, it only slips when pulling from a dead stop sometimes. I am a laid off, full time college student trying to figure out how much longer I have before getting my new SPEC 111.

If ya baby it & dont slip it or let it slip, you might get months out of it...but each slip "event" takes off valuable friction material...it's more a question of how long can you stand staying off it..... todays hydraulic clutch cylinders usually self adjust fine, but have you checked the adjustment at the pedal? maybe you can wring a little more out of it if by some chance it's not adjusted correctly...

Checked the adjustment and its a no go. Am I the only one here who think prices parts for a lt1 or ls1 are outrageous?

Im not 100% sure on this, but i would think running the clutch too long could cause more harm than its worth.

Once so much of the friction material wears off the clutch disc, the steel rivits that hold it together will start chewing up the flywheel. This could lead to needing a new one, which costs ~$300.

No, only time it slips is in 1st gear pulling off from a dead stop, and if I am trying to "power shift " through the gears. What you think?

I would go with what Valkin71 said because your clutch is just like your brake pads. You let them go too long then they will end up runing your rotors and costing you more $$$$

I once tried riding a clutch down to the rivets before I got my street twin. I actually was burning up the clutch at the track and during eliminations I was stuck with the decision to either grind the clutch on the rivets and possibly win or play it safe. Knowing me I raced with the rivets grinding against the flywheel. After I won 2nd place I drove home 240 miles on the clutch (highway miles) and got it home. When I pulled it apart after dragracing and expecting to see large grooves in the flywheel it was completely flat. There wasnt even a scrape in the flywheel even though I could clearly see the rivets ground down. So I wouldnt worry too much about what Valkyn said. Where are you located red rocket? there are some $200 clutch kits out there.

My replacement Hays clutch is doing the same thing, and it only has ~10,000 miles on it. It only slips when I launch hard or if I powershift. It will BARELY scratch the tires going into second gear. Otherwise it works great! I would say you're fine for a while. If you really want to check your clutch, put your trans in 4th gear at 40 MPH or so, push in the clutch, snap the throttle open, and dump the clutch. If the clutch grabs it's good, if not, it's bad. That's the easiest test I know of.

North Carolina......Thinks for all the info! Just trying to hold out as long as I can before spending a fortune on another clutch.
