Question Slipping(?) 700R4

Hey,
I just got my 86 z28 with a 4bbl 350 in it on the road. For the first few days, i could pretty much floor it and everything was fine.
A couple of days ago, I was driving my car around town and noticed what seems to be either slipping or bad linkage. I can be at a stop sign, and if i accelerate too quickly (not even floor it) i can feel, and see, the shift lever slipping a little bit. Like if i get on the throttle from a dead stop, I can hear pop pop pop pop pop and see the shift lever jump about an eigth of an inch.
What do you think the problem is? Bad clutch packs? thanks.
