Shifting problem

I have a 1995 M6 LT1 with 30,000 miles on it.

Just recently I have been having a bit of trouble shifting up into 5th (usually when 4th is around 3krpm or more). Even though I'm holding the clutch on the floor, it makes that awful crunch sound and takes a few pushes to get it in gear. Although it seems to shift fine at lower rpms.

Is this a sign that something is getting loose? Or worse?

Thanks!

Re: Shifting problem

sounds like you need syncros to me. if your clutch is fully releasing and you can get into reverse fine without any noises id guess the syncros are wasted but make sure its not a hydraulic problem with the clutch not fully releasing. If that were the case though you would have trouble in more than just 5th.

Re: Shifting problem

I had no problems with getting into reverse so far, it does feel like the clutch may not be releasing fully, but like you say I have no problems in any other gear yet so that may not be the case. I'll see if the problem progresses.

How much damage does the selector crunching/miss shift do if any? It does'nt sound too pretty so I'm guessing its taking its toll.

I'll assume its the syncros for now, but I'll keep an eye on the other possible causes aswell.
