Shifter movement-T-56 on LT1

hey guys, this is my first post in this forum.

i was driving my car tonight (i drive the car about once a month) and i noticed a lot of movement in my shifter (up and down) when i put my foot down a little. now i know there is more movement in this car than in something like my daily driven S-10. but it was moving up more than 1.5" and i wasnt even on the gas very hard.

what is the normal up and down shifter movement? i dont remember it moving nearly 2" before.....ill jack the car up later to see if anything is loose or and bolts missing....but i just thought you guys would have some imput.

thanks,
jeremy

It's highly possible that you have a worn or broken transmission mount. Likely to happen on a stock trans mount. When you do put it in the air, you can check the mount by pushing or prying up on the rear of the trans and see how far the mount deflects or stretches. For replacement, you could go with a new stock one, polyurethane(Energy or Prothane), or solid. I have the Energy Sus. trans. mount and torque arm bushing and I'm happy with them. They did transmit more vibs in the beginning but smoothed out later on. I'd say 2-4 weeks tops. This also includes having the mount preload plate installed on a 3rd and 4th gen f-body.
From what I read off this site, if you go stock, the LS1 variant is better, might be the only one available thru dealer. Stay away from auto parts store types unless you can get a Moog brand. They seem or are the best brand for stock style suspension items. The poly way, Prothane has better reviews. The solid is a hole other ball game there. Others can chime in on their response to the solid. I have not read or seen too many people with the solid trans mount.
Mine with stock mounts would move maybe .5"-.75" on both cars, now only about .25" tops.
Good luck, Allan.
