shifter?

yesterday i got to drive an 02ish mustang with the 5 speed, it had a hurst shifter in it, and it felt so much nicer than my 6 speed, it was really firm and no slop what so ever, mines the stock shifter, and im wondering if i got a hurst would it give me something close to that feel? or is there a better brand i should go with? just wanted some feedback on the different brands and experiences, thanks guys!

B&M Ripper or Pro 5.0. Some on here like the Hurst shifter, but I've never heard complaints about the other 2. I have a B&M and love it, and my brother has a Pro 5.0 in his 99 WS6 and says it is such an improvement over stock.

Hurst is ok... Pro 5.0 is the best one out there though...

If you do a search on shifters, it's been discussed 1000's of times and the Pro 5.0 is ALWAYS the most recommended.

I've driven an F-Body at one time with all three shifters. My favorite was the Hurst with the Lou's short stick. The Pro 5.0 is a nice piece as well. Right now my Z28 has a B&M Ripper in it. I can't really comment on it until I get my tranny back in, this car hasn't been right since I got it. I drove a '94 T/A with the B&M though and wasn't too fond of it.

chevyrules85:
I installed the Hurst and found it to be a huge improvement over the factory shifter. I never tried a short stick on it because for me the position of the shifter relative to the wheel feels ideal. From the comments I've seen there doesn't seem to be a big difference between any of the after market shifters ... they're all better than thefactory unit.

The standard stock shifter sucks.

The factory-optional Hurst shifter is very nice.

The aftermarket offerings from Hurst, B&M, and Pro 5.0 are all just a little bit nicer than the factory-optional Hurst. They also have adjustable hard stops, which protects the transmission.

I recently replaced my factory Hurst with a Pro 5.0, and I'm very happy. I'm also glad to know that my new shifter won't be able to cause the damage that the old one did, which required me to get my transmission rebuilt.

The aftermarket Hurst is more expensive than the other two, and therefore not as popular. As far as I know, it's pretty much the same.

If you get a Pro 5.0, make sure you get a Lou's Short Stick to go with it.

Just for clarification, can someone explain the sentences I've put in bold?

Excessive pressure from overly excited shifting can bend shift forks, on the better shifters there is a screw stop that limits the shifter stick.

I recently drove a 05-06 shelby mustang with a Hurst shifter, the feel was totally different than on my car(in sig) it was very short firm and slopless which was suprising because the stick was as long as the Hurst billet plus in my car. I was impressed.

So I assume that you get these on the B&M and the 5.0, but what about the Hursts (all 3)??
