roomate touched clutch...brake cleaner fine?

got my new clutch in the mail, and while i was opening it and looking at it, my roomate picked up the clutch disk and was touching and feeling the friction material.

i know you're supposed to clean the flywheel and associated parts with brake cleaner to keep all oil off the clutch prior to assembly.

is it ok to clean the clutch disk with brake cleaner?

she didn't touch it much, and it was normal everyday "clean" hands ...ie...not greasy "just removed a transmission" hands...

just wanna check...i'll be if this affects my new clutch!

Yeah, that should work, I used it on mine before I installed it. Then, spray him in the face a few times and say "BAD"

I'd make her clean the clutch and your pushrod.

PICTURES!!! NOW!!!!!! Oh, wait, this isn't the lounge and I'm not one to leg hump. But, if you do have pictures, and were so inclined to post them in the lounge, I'm sure they would be appreciated.

If she only touched the clutch pad with her hands with nothing on them youll be fine... clutches arent really that fragile.. As long as there isnt any oil on it.. Clean the PP and the Flywheel though..

Yea, its no big deal to touch the friction material. I wouldnt even use cleaner on it, that to me would be worse than touching it

I agree, even though the cleaner will just evaporate it could still compromise the friction material to spray a solvent on it. Clean the other parts and you'll be fine. Oil from your hands won't hurt the disk, it'll wear off in a couple of shifts. But don't get grease or motor oil on it
