replacing clutch need info

replacing clutch need info

Hi i have a 98 camaro that needs a new clutch the question is can the transmission be taken out without having to take the k member or the motor
loose , any info would be great

yes. The bellhousing unbolts from the back of the motor with 5 bolts. The transmission first unbolts from the bellhousing though. Have you ever done a clutch before? Try searching around on here or google for "How To" write ups on clutches.

i did the clutch in my 99z by myself, in the driveway with nothing more than hand tools and a floor jack.

biggest thing is having the car really high, and having enough extensions to get the bolts on the top of the bellhousing.

other than logistical difficulties.....hidden bolts and a heavy trans (really not bad)....its straight forward.

i've done it 3 times total, once i even installed it completely by myself. other times i just had a friend there for a 2nd set of muscles.
