removing trans in driveway....how did you guys do it?
how did you guys support and lower the tranny?
i was thinking of building a cradle to support between 2 floor jacks...so if it rolls to the side it doesn't fall off the jack.
gonna be doing a clutch install.

I bought a universal one from autozone for 40 bucks, not perfect, but damn near close. It goes in to the cradle on a floor jack, so the head or whatever its called must be able to come off. You really need to be able to move it around in there. If you need any help, let me know, I just got done with mine on my 95 T/A not too long ago.

I have a wooden block about the size of the tranny pan. I just lay it on top of a floor jack and set the tranny on it. It's not very stable with one jack, but it works.

i was also thinking i would tie up the tail shaft...
then lower the front, get it down on a dolly and then lower the rear.
maybe if i have 3 people, on jack would work.
a jack man, and then on person on eachside to keep it from tipping sideways

I bought 2 ton tranny jack, and have been using it for the last few years. I'm about to have a 2 post hoist installed, so Ill have to buy on to use with it. You wanna buy my old one?
Re: removing trans in driveway....how did you guys do it?
I had some wood sitting around so I took (2) 1.5'X1.5' pieces of plywood placed a bolt and washers between them in the center as a pivot point, then I paced a bolt in each corner for adjustability (raise or lower the left/right or front/rear)then I strapped the bottom board to my floor jack and user a few straps to hold the tranny to the top board. Esentially building my own tranny jack attacment out of spare wood, It worked beautifully!
Re: removing trans in driveway....how did you guys do it?
I got mine out myself. I basically bench pressed it down onto my chest, then rolled it off me carefully onto the floor.
Installation was a bit different, as I didn't want to chance breaking something (or myself), so I used a buddy and a jack to balance it then shove it back in.

I did kinda what Ion did but I remove the jack cradle thingy and had a 2 by 6 about the length of tranny pan and bolt it through hole in jack. Have used it many times can have tranny out in bout an hour.

the tranny jack at autozone only 40 bucks
it goes in place of the "saddle" (some one said they didnt know what it was called) on you jack, dont use one of them wimpy hydraulic jacks where u have to pump a million times to bring it up to the chassis, use a service jack, with the nice long arm for that extra torque

I think all 3 of my daughters would kill me if I did that. I'm doing good just to fend them off so I can have my "man space" in the garage..
Re: removing trans in driveway....how did you guys do it?
I've used the methods already described before, but the last time... I used a stout 2x4x8 with an eye bolt large washer and lock nut secured to the middle of the 2x4. I slide this across door to door and as close to the steering wheel as possible, then used a small come along attached to the eye bolt and the other end hooked to a nylon strap around the tranny. I then applied some pressure on the come along to support the tranny's weight and removed all the bolts.
Once all the tranny bolts were out, I could work the tranny out from inside the car and lower it when it cleared the bellhousing.
To install it I just jacked it back up and left a little play in the rig so I could slide it home. I did all this alone, but with a helper it easier.

I just slid under there and let it rest on my chest. Wasn't hard at all getting it out, and to get in in I just breathed in really deep and it raised the tranny to the perfect height. I did this with both a T5 and a 700R4.

It's not that hard really. If you did it once before, you know how it comes out and it should be easy.
